The visit of the Ghana Embassy, China from 9th – 10th November, 2025 to the Jiangsu Suzhou Port Group Co., Ltd. in China marks a significant milestone in the economic relationship between the two countries. This visit sanctioned by H.E Kojo Bonsu, Ambassador of the Ghana Embassy in the People’s Republic of China, and facilitated by the China-Africa Forum (CAIF), demonstrates the commitment of both nations to deepen their economic cooperation and explore new opportunities for mutual benefit, and also a swift result of President John Mahama’s visit to China in October this year.
A Strategic Partnership
The meeting between the Ghanaian delegation and the Management of Jiangsu Suzhou Port Group Co., Ltd. was productive and insightful. The Group’s presentation showcased their expertise in port operations, logistics, and smart management, highlighting their commitment to innovation and sustainability. The Ghanaian side emphasised the country’s strategic location along the West African coast, serving as a gateway to the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) market and Africa as a whole.
Key Areas of Cooperation
Several key areas of cooperation were identified during the meeting, including:
– Port Development: Jiangsu Suzhou Port Group Co., Ltd. expressed interest in investing in Ghana’s port infrastructure, leveraging their expertise in smart port development and management.
– Agriculture: The Group is interested in investing in Ghana’s agricultural sector, particularly in the production of fertilizers and livestock feeds.
– Energy: The Group is exploring opportunities in Ghana’s energy sector, including renewable energy and energy efficiency.
– Water Treatment: The Group’s water purification subsidiary, Hoson, is interested in setting up water treatment plants in Ghana, particularly in areas with polluted water.

This visit is a direct result of the recent visit by President John Dramani Mahama to China in October 2025, where he met with Chinese President Xi Jinping and explored opportunities for economic cooperation between the two countries. The Ghanaian Embassy in China, led by Ambassador Kojo Bonsu, has been instrumental in facilitating this cooperation and ensuring that the interests of both countries are met.
